Center of Geography Education & ESD



Center of Geography Education & Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was established in 1996, which has 4 full-time faculty members and about 10 visiting professors from Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, University of Wurzburg (Germany), George Eckert Institute (Germany), and University of Missouri- St. Louis (USA) etc. The Center undertakes the talents-cultivating task for three Bachelor programs, two Master programs and two Doctoral programs. The research mainly focuses on Geographical Curriculum and pedagogy, Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development, Environment and Heritage Interpretation. Over 4 million students from middle schools and high schools in China are using the Geography textbooks compiled by the center. The center undertakes the middle school geography teachers' training nationwide and park management training jointly with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Land and Resource etc. The center set up the first Ph.D program on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development in China in 2000 and first Ph.D program on Environment and Heritage Interpretation in 2005.
