International MA Program in "China's Population, Resources, Environment and Development"

. Program Introduction

Population, resources, environment and development (PRED) is the current hot topic of international sustainable development. Although China's rapid economic development brings great opportunities for the world, but is also facing severe challenges. It is very important to study China's PRED problems, for solving the  people - land relationship conflicts in globalization. Geography discipline is unique and characteristic in more than 100 years history of BNU, which is also a key discipline at the national level. Department of Geography currently owns Geography as first-level disciplines for doctorate degree granting, and 17 second-level disciplines: physical geography, human geography, cartography and geographic information systems, natural resources, natural disasters and global environmental change. State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science, Key Laboratory of Environmental Change and Natural Disaster of Ministry of Education and Key Laboratory of Environmental Remote Sensing and Digital Cities of Beijing provide strong research capabilities.

The MA in China's Population, Resources, Environment and Development aims to train talented individuals from fields of domestic and international geography, resources, environment, socio-economic. The program aims to meet the demands of analysis capabilities, innovative research and community management capabilities in PRED study. Based on the rich international resources of Beijing Normal University, the program has a strong team of professors and faculty members, and aims to become a high quality, world-class Beijing Normal University international program.

II. Plan of Study

1. Basic requirements:

The students are managed by the combination of the academic year method and the credit method. Students usually graduate by completing 34 course credits and graduation thesis in 2 years’ study. However, up to 5 years to complete graduation requirements is allowed.

3.Thesis requirements:

Thesis about 2,0000 words in English is required to be written. Thesis defense is required to be held using English. Abstract in Chinese is also required.

IV Admission and Application time
1. Admission time: in September each year.
2. Application time: by the end of June 15th each year (Chinese Government scholarship’s  deadline is March 1 each year)


V. Application Requirements and Required Materials
1. Application requirements: education background equivalent to a Chinese college graduate or more, foreign citizens in good health condition.
2. Materials requirements:
Applicants must first visit
http://www.bnulxsh.com/graduate
and complete the online application procedure. The following application materials should be mailed to the International Students Office at BNU by June 15th each year:
(1) BNU Application Form for International Students (upon completion of the online application form it must be downloaded and printed. Please attach a photo and ensure that the application form is signed by the applicant and his/her guarantor.)
(2) Admission Approval Form (Please download and print the form)
(3) Certificate(certificate of expected graduate time for final year students) and diploma or Notarized Certificate of Bachelor's Degree. Certificates in languages other than Chinese and English are needed to be provided with their notarized Chinese or English translation.
(4) All course transcripts in undergraduate or graduate periods or their notarized certificates. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese and English are needed to be provided with their notarized Chinese or English translation.
(5) Recommendation letters from two associate professors (or with higher professional title). The original letters in Chinese or English are required.
(6) TOEFL or IELTS Test Report (TOEFL test scores needs to be more than 550 points/80 points. IELTS score needs to be more than 6 points. Applicants from the English-speaking countries can be exempted)
(7) Personal Statement(about 1000 words)
(8) Photocopy of applicant
s passport (this must be a valid, ordinary passport)
(9) Two passport-sized photos (with the name of the applicant and the college/department applied for written on the back)
(10) Please submit any published academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements (originals or copies)
(11) Application fee(600 RMB).
Note: All documents should be written in English or Chinese; Application materials and registration fee will not be returned.

VI. How to Apply
1. Application procedures:
The first step: Download "BNU Application Form for International Students" from the website at http://www.bnulxsh.com/graduate. Please fill the form as required with photo attached.
The second step: Send the application form, application fee and other related application materials before the registration deadline to the International Students Office at BNU.
The third step: The university will review the material and then send the admitted person the "Admission Letter", "Visa Application Form for Foreign Students" (JW201 form) and all the other materials.
